If we're not going straight to the underserved schools—not going directly to the kids born and growing up with less than others—so that they can see, feel, and touch technology for themselves, how can we expect them to understand how technology works? How would they know a career in technology/cybersecurity even exists? How can they have a sense of confidence they can pursue that career? Chances are, they can't—and therefore, won't.
But this is something that former NFL player, Oren O'Neal, has taken on as a problem that should and can be solved. Through his non-profit, Oren is reaching the students who often get left behind, and he is doing it in a way that doesn't make them "escape" from their neighborhood. Instead, Oren shows students that they can succeed in their environment, making their own community better for themselves and everyone who lives and will grow up in them.
